Our Journey – From a Small Grocery to a Trusted Retail Destination
Sethsiri Super proudly traces its roots back to 1985, when our founder, Mr. G.H. Ariyadasa, established a small grocery store in the heart of the Gampola Market. Guided by honesty, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to quality, he built a business that quickly earned the trust and loyalty of the local community.
As customer demand continued to grow, the grocery store was relocated to Malabar Street, Gampola, allowing the business to expand and serve more families. With continued growth over the years, Sethsiri found its permanent home at No. 2V, Nawalapitiya Road, Gampola, where our headquarters proudly stand today.
This milestone marked the beginning of Sethsiri Super—a modern supermarket created to provide customers with a complete, convenient, and enjoyable shopping experience. Inspired by the shared vision of Mr. G.H. Ariyadasa and his son, Mr. Srinath Hewage, Sethsiri Super evolved into one of Gampola's most trusted retail destinations, offering quality products, exceptional service, and outstanding value under one roof.
Growing with Our Community
As the needs of our customers evolved, so did our vision.
On 27 January 2023, we proudly expanded our family of businesses by opening Sethsiri Bakers and Cafe 1985 by Sethsiri. These new ventures were established with a simple mission: to provide fresh bakery products, delicious meals, quality beverages, and a welcoming atmosphere where families and friends could gather and enjoy memorable moments.
Today, Sethsiri Bakers and Cafe 1985 have become popular destinations for fresh food, bakery items, and friendly service, reflecting the same commitment to quality that has defined Sethsiri since 1985.
Rising Stronger – A Story of Resilience
Our greatest challenge came on 27 November 2025, when Cyclone Ditva brought catastrophic flooding to the town of Gampola.
The unprecedented floodwaters engulfed the entire Sethsiri premises. The ground floor—including the supermarket, warehouses, and Sethsiri Bakers—was completely submerged. The upper floor, housing our warehouse complex, administrative offices, and Cafe 1985, was also inundated by nearly four feet of water. At its peak, almost 25 feet of floodwater surrounded the property, causing extensive destruction and bringing decades of hard work to an unexpected halt.
Although the disaster caused immense damage, it could not diminish the spirit of the Sethsiri family.
From the very first day, our Chairman, Deputy Chairman, management team, and every member of the Sethsiri family stood together with remarkable courage, determination, and unity. Through countless hours of hard work, dedication, and perseverance, they began rebuilding the organization from the ground up.
The first milestone of this inspiring recovery was achieved on 12 January 2026, when Sethsiri Bakers and Cafe 1985 by Sethsiri proudly reopened their doors, once again serving the community with warmth and care.
Meanwhile, the reconstruction of Sethsiri Super continued with unwavering commitment. Every detail was carefully redesigned to create a more modern, spacious, and customer-friendly shopping environment equipped with improved facilities and an enhanced retail experience.
Finally, on 5 March 2026, Sethsiri Super officially reopened in a joyful and celebratory ceremony. This reopening represented far more than the return of a supermarket—it became a powerful symbol of resilience, hope, perseverance, and the unwavering spirit of the Sethsiri family and the community that stood beside us throughout our journey.
